The old adage states that we are the amalgamation of the people closest to us. Jim Rohn, the famous motivational speaker, famously said you are the AVERAGE of the five people closest to you. Who you are is heavily influenced by who you’re close to! How does that make you feel? What do you love about these people?
If you’re not impressed with your list, it may be a time to have some crucial conversations with some of those folks. Sometimes, relationships end. This is something we all have to come to accept. Some, when considering this question, realize that they are not as close to those whom they should be. Perhaps some energy needs to be put forth to address these relationships. Others not putting in the time, we may need to cut ties with.
If you’re not who you want to be, this could be due to the five of those closest to you. Surround yourself with people who lift you up.
